I wanted my first post to be about the meaning of life... but I found that to be too ambitious and that it would take more than one post... However, I thought I can set out my mission statement - for my life and, as a part of that, this blog. Not sure what a mission statement is supposed to look like because I don't think I've ever actively thought of one and wrote it down... but here it goes!
"To be a true follower of Christ - being true to His Word and obeying His Commandments. To spread the Good News and to live a life of true, authentic love - the love exemplified by Christ's life and death. To also appreciate the blessings I have in my life (including life itself) and use the gifts that were given to me to work in God's Will"
So I think to define this a little more...
To be a true follower of Christ and be true to His Word and obey His Commandments. I think this means to do what I can from what I know to follow and carry out God's will. A huge part of that, I believe, means to continue to seek Christ and what it means to know Christ so that I might better understand what I am trying to live and what I'm trying to spread. For if I hope to spread the Good News, then I better be clear on what the Good News is and what it means. Finally something I've been exploring is true, authentic love... the kind of love that I find in Christ's life and death is the kind that asks for nothing in return. If Christ gave His life for the good of people who wanted to kill him, then I hope I can at least try to do a little bit of what he did. He also commands us to love our enemies... I pray that I find the strength to live that one out. Another helpful guide in the search for living true, authentic love is found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8... it reads,
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails..."
I'll probably post about this passage sometime soon =D. Then there's the appreciating my blessings - I think it's important to find the blessings in both triumphs and suffering. When I appreciate my blessings, it means realizing that I don't deserve what I have and that it can all be easily taken away. This idea instills a sense of passion in me to use my gifts and blessings to their fullest to work in God's will.
But yeah, at least for now, this is what my mission statement means to me! That's what I want to live my life by. It'll probably change and evolve as I grow and learn... it'll be fun!
ALL LOVE

ReplyDeleteI'm constantly amazed at how Christ is working in your life. I was telling someone the other day that it's been well over a year since we had our first conversation about glorifying God in a dance circle -- now not only do you know how to do that, but so much more...I mean look at this post! A true testament to God's grace and transforming work through Christ. Keep going brother!
